Prunus laurocerasus
Rosaceae
Common
The evergreen large shrub Cherry Laurel was
introduced as a hedging plant and is used for that
purpose throughout the highlands. However, it has
escaped from plantings and has become a serious
woody weed. The glossy leaves are rather thick and
up to 15 cm long; the lower surface is light green.
The flowers are white, about 1 cm in diameter and
produced on a 15 cm long inflorescence. The ovoid
fruit is black-purple and about 1 cm long.
