Dicksonia antarctica
Dicksoniaceae
Common
This tree fern has smooth stems, rather than the rough stems of Cyathea australis. The brown scales at the base of the fronds are narrow, soft and hair-like in comparison to the larger scales found on Cyathea australis. The fern grows to over four metres tall, with a trunk up to 50 cm in diameter, and has fronds at least two metres long. Small circular sori are numerous on the underside of the fertile frond.
